Synopsis
I return to Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales, although on this occasion I visit a different part of the dale. Today’s tour starts in Redmire. The end of the day takes me to a gentler place as I explore the pretty village of Castle Bolton named after its castle.....
There were more videos in the Yorkshire Dales I wanted to make, so this was where I decided to shoot my first film of 2017. I booked 3 nights in a hotel in Reeth for the end of March, so I planned to make another three films in the Dales during my stay here. I had wanted to get to Reeth before to make these films, but for one reason or another it never happened, so I was really happy that at last I would finally be making it to Reeth in March 2017.
I chose to make the first of these three Yorkshire Dales films in and around the village of Redmire and nearby Castle Bolton, a part of Wensleydale I hadn’t covered previously when I was staying in Hawes back in September 2014. This film could be shot en route to Reeth, so on Monday 27th March 2017 I made my journey from home to arrive in Redmire at around 10:00am. I parked in the village where my day of filming began. After about an hour or so of shooting around Redmire I headed south and followed Well Lane out of the village to eventually arrive beside the River Ure. I walked along the path which ran parallel with the river as far as Redmire Force, where I took some great shots of the falls and was the perfect spot to stop to eat my lunch.
Following Mill Lane back into Redmire I headed towards the old railway bridge near the terminus of the Wensleydale Railway. From the bridge I followed the path across fields to Castle Bolton getting some wonderful shots of Bolton Castle on the approach to the village. Although the castle was closed I still managed to capture some great shots of its exterior. I filmed around the village before walking back to Redmire where my walk was complete. Filming was not quite finished, however, as I wanted to take just a couple more shots as I drove towards Reeth, so I stopped on Redmire and Grinton Moors respectively to get a shot of the views, particularly a long shot of Reeth, which was the last shot of the day.
For “Rapids of Redmire” I deliberately chose to compose a musical soundtrack that would be similar to “Waterfalls of Wensleydale”, but not the same of course. In addition to composing a new piece of music for certain scenes I recorded an instrumental version of my Yorkshire Dales song “Insecure About You” as I had done for “Wensleydale”, but created a slighter faster version with different keyboard voices. I also decided to change the title sequence slightly. Firstly I recorded a new rendition of the “Solitary Rambler Theme”. Secondly I added more shadow to the captions so that they would stand out more and, lastly, I inserted more, shorter shots of scenes from previous films.
