Background and production details

The last film I decided to make whilst staying at the Premier Inn at Gargrave was in another part of Wharfedale  in the Yorkshire Dales . I had featured a little of Wharfedale in the recent " Inspiration of Ilkley ", although this particular section is not in the Dales. I had, however, visited Wharfedale within the Yorkshire Dales back in 2014 when I made “ Wonders of Wharfedale ”, but this new film would take place between Bolton Abbey and Burnsall , a few miles downstream from Grassington where my tour in "Wonders of Wharfedale" had ended.

I parked at the village car park in Bolton Abbey , shot a few scenes in the village then walked down to the priory . I captured shots of the ruins and the River Wharfe below it with the stepping stones and footbridge. I attempted to cross the stepping stones, but did not feel safe particularly as I was carrying my camcorder and tripod, so I used the footbridge. I followed the path that climbed above the river on the east side and shot scenes of the views. I walked as far as Cavendish Pavilion where I crossed the river again to the west side. I was going to follow the riverside as far as Barden Bridge, but I was still rough with a cold so I decided to make my day easier and drive to the locations I wanted to feature.

Walking back to Bolton Abbey I collected my car and drove on to the Strid car park. I took a few shots of the tea room then walked through Strid Wood down to the River Wharfe where it passes through the Strid . I carefully took my shots here as the Strid has claimed many lives in the past, and then walked back up to the car park to move on to Barden Tower . I parked on the roadside and filmed a few shots of the ruins of Barden Tower and the Priests House next to it. Leaving here I drove on to the last location of the day, the village of Burnsall. This was a lovely place in which to film as the village is very pretty as well as the surrounding countryside. My day of filming ended in Burnsall, so after everything was in the can I drove back to Gargrave.

By mid-February 2017, after a busy few weeks editing the previous five films, I at last got round to working on the post-production of “Bolton Abbey to Burnsall”, which ended up as the final video to have been filmed in 2016. On this occasion I had no wish to use my Yorkshire Dales theme/song “Insecure About You”, so I decided to come up with something new, although I had no specific theme in my head I wanted to use. However, during the last couple of months I recorded a few demos when ideas came to me at the time, so I ended up developing one of these ideas into the main theme for this video.
