Background and production details

Another film in the Peak District   I still wanted to do was around Wildboarclough and Macclesfield Forest in Cheshire , so I prepared to go out shooting in this area a few days after I had been filming in Hayfield for the preceding film . One of the prominent points of interest in this part of the Peak District is Shutlingsloe , so I wanted that in my film which would include a climb to the summit. The other point of interest I needed to include was the Stanley Arms pub at Bottom-of-the-Oven.

I went out on Tuesday 6th September 2016 and began by parking my car in the layby beside the bridge over Clough Brook at Wildboarclough. I walked up the road to St Saviour’s Church where I took the first shots of the day. Walking back down to the car I moved on up to Clough House at the free Peak National Park car park, where I left the car for the majority of the day. I captured shots as I followed the lane as far as Dingers Hollow Farm where I walked along a field path towards Macclesfield Forest. At the edge of the forest I followed the track signposted to Shutlingsloe. Along here I got great shots of the open countryside and views.

Eventually I made it to the summit of Shutlingsloe, which wasn’t as hard a climb as I thought it would be, and I got fantastic shots up here before scrambling down the other side back towards Wildboarclough. Driving on from Clough House I went to Trentabank and Ridgegate Reservoirs including the Leather’s Smithy pub before retracing my steps and ending up at the Stanley Arms at Bottom-of-the-Oven where I went inside the pub for a drink and a nice meal after I had finished filming.

I chose to compose a soundtrack for “Summit of Shutlingsloe” using piano and high sine voices on my keyboard, similar to the music I had created for “ Winds of Windgather ” which, as that film had been shot nearby, seemed appropriate.
